Noma Bar, IBM

More on Noma Bar, alot of his work is used by IBM who are a large American multinational IT consulting corporation. So a pretty big job to have.

He has designed alot of flyers, leaflets, and all sort of promotional items for IBM.

Examples of Bars IBM work_

Thought I would start by showing this, this is a prime example, "Now every doctor knows you personally." So straight away you know its based on doctors, and in his mind he has thought he wants to use a doctor, but combine it with what they use, and he has pulled it out the bad and used some hospital apparatus to help put together a image of a doctor.

The saying of people eating like pigs, and he has brought this saying into context, with the pigs nose being a plate with the fork and knife as nostrils and more. His designs are just so clever, but something that has to be messed about with and could take time to get the idea nailed.

This design based on road driver is a very clever and appealing design in my book, creating a illustration of a person based on cars and roads, image goes with the headline, a man looking out of a pair of binoculars to the headline "Drivers can see traffic jams before they happen"

Once again working with the head line, "Phones reduce their own footprints." The design is a strong one, simply footprints transferred into phones, simple, clever, easy, brilliant.

"Trains now queue for passengers" Once again he has taken a the idea of the subject, this time it is the tube, Who gets the train? Business man, so that is something he has based this designs on, with their brief cases being the windows of the trains.

"Police see emergencies before they emerge" Bar seems to enjoy playing with the human face, experimenting with different ways of showing it, using different items for facial expressions, in this case a spot light, being used as a nose and a eye, just clever ideas, that can be succeeded in experimenting and messing about with imagery.

As I mentioned above, and have mentioned alot throughout these Noma Bar blogs, his designs are really good, and something I have started to inspire to. I like his simplicity and use of bold, flat colours and how his pieces work as a set. I have alot more images my Noma, which will be getting put on here.

Noma Bar

When I was browsing the internet I was lucky to come across some designs by a designer named Noma Bar, Noma is a Israeli designer. His designs concentrate on simple designs, using bold flat colours, clever quirky designs, with good use of negative space.

Noma has done alot of work for The Guardian newspaper, G2, and also done alot of designs for IMB,

I really like his style, and he has done a hell of alot of designs.

Below are a few examples_

This is the weakest of Noma's designs, in my opinion, compared to his other existing designs this one just has to much, and not as effective, the idea is good, but I think it could have been put together alot better.

This design stood out to me when browsing through Noma Bar's work, its a very simple design but with so much effect, he sticks with simple bold illustrations and works with a limited colour pallet for each of his designs.

The two designs above are prime examples of what Noma Bar does alot, designs images that can be either one thing or another, almost like two images in one.

I thought I would throw this into this blog, it is a magazine cover for The Economist, based on stopping drugs and war, and I feel the image he put together for the magazine is a good piece of design, silhouette of items, including guns and drugs, and then working with the negative space to make a whole appealing image.

This is one of my favourites of his designs, simply because it is a image that tells a story of the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. combining two images from the story to make one.

The two above did not have a description on what they are and why they where designed, but its obvious its of a sexual nature, but once again simple, easy but clever designs, good use of one colour, and good use of filled in outlines.

This is very similar to the Red Riding Hood design, combining two images into one, in a clever but yet simple way of design.

There is alot of designs by Noma Bar, its interested and influenced me looking into his designs and I will have more blog post about his stuff, because they are designs I enjoy looking at and analysing.

Shepard Fairey Design

Shepard Fairey is a well known street designer, creating some of the biggest street art around, Obey.

Shepard Fairey is one of my favourite designers, I like his style of illustration and how he used bold lines and flat bright colours, with a limited colour pallet.

Below are a few examples of his work that I have been looking at that I feel I could use for my Movie posters designs_

With the two designs above they have again kept the colour pallet, but made the designs look abit more rougher than other example I have seen, still have the same design effect, and could be something I could work with, have a little mess about and play with.

Guns & Roses_ This is a good example of what I am looking into, same colour pallet used as Olly Moss, the design is simple, and is pretty clever, nicely put together.

Black Sabbath_ Reason for this being here is incase I would like to use people for the designs, this is a prime example of how I would like them to look on my own designs, like how they have been illustrated.

Shadow_ I like the simplicity of this design, using just a word, but it has a big effect, designs like this just appeal to me, same colour pallet once again.

Propaganda_ This isn't really a example of what I am going for, but I thought I would pop it up on here anyways, cause the use of the same colour pallet, but also it could be something I could have a test and mess about it maybe.

Looking at all these examples of Shepard Fairey & Olly Moss its made me grow on limited colour pallet in illustration, which is something that hasn't interested during my design career, till now.

Few Other Movie Posters

I was looking into more movie posters to get more inspiration.

Found these by just doing a silly search on Google, just typing in "Vintage Movie Posters"

Only found two that where in the design style I am looking for.

The Bird_ I was drawn into this with how simple it is, a flat red back ground with a feather filled in with another blank colour, in this case being white, with text getting involved with it. Pretty nice design.

Opicka_ This design appealed to me because of the colour pallet, it is the same as the Olly Moss designs, and the design on a whole is a similar style but without the clever designs, and this one has a image of a monkey imported.

Jim_ This isn't the same approach as either of the designs above, but I put this in because I felt it was a nice design, the simplicity of the design, of the beaker being a outline and the outlined baby all used with bold flat colours.

These designs are not as good as the Olly Moss designs that I would like to focus on,

but I thought they would be good to look into because they are still nice designs.

More Nike Idea's

This is not one of the examples I am showing to explain on this blog, but I though I would throw it in, because I feel the black and white image works on the blank background,

& how the blue text stands out, and how I could try this and experiment with colour aswell with the text.

All just ideas I could try out for the brief.

Anyways,

I was thinking about that collage idea, of combining the images into one image,

and when browsing Nike Football, I found a few more, but these don't have the darkness as the others do, these focus on a white flat background.

These designs are to promote the new Nike football kits, and promote games being played involving players sponsored by Nike.

This is a good example of what am talking about, collaging a load of images together, and combing it with the typography, chance to mess about with composition and placement.

Above the three images show that I could use this idea focusing on one person and photograph them in different positions and mess about with composition and see what can be produced, with the selected few they limited there colour pallet, what ever colours that team wear, they have worked around with that, which could be something I should think about.

& the designs above are based on two Nike sponsored teams who will be going head to head, and put together a match promotion poster, using a few players from each team and combining there team colours to make the combined image.

With the images, alot of work has gone into editing the photographs colours, keeping kits bright so they stand out, and changing the colours and contrasts of the faces of the players.

I feel these design ideas could work if I was to put them together good enough.

If I where to take images along these lines and put together something, and these where not to be used for the final posters maybe I could find some use for them,

A flyer or small printed information magazine or something along them lines.

Nike Promotion

Working on from the "Nike Photography" blog just below,

I found perfect existing designs, that show exactly what I want to do.

These designs I found on Nike Football, where all done during this years Fifa World Cup 2010, South Africa,

they are something that really appealed to me, and one of the reasons I wrote this brief, so I could do something along these lines.

I have put this on here, cause if needs be, I could take the Photoshop and turn the images take, and combine them together into some sort of collage, and see if that can be very effective.

Here is the idea of have the complete darkness with the image standing out, with alot of dark blank space to have a mess about with typography around the image.

The images are standing out, with some of the existing background still in its place, with a margin of black on the side for bits of information or titles to go,

To me and my designs may not be as effective, but could be something I could work on.

With this image, they have left out the darkness put around the background, and stuck what was actually there in the image. It's good, but I don't feel its had the same effect as what the darkness has with the others.

Here are good examples if I wanted a group of people in the photographs,

can easily be ranged left or right and the opposite side can have a blend from light to dark, where the typography can be inserted.

I really feel this is something I can do, and would enjoy doing throughout the brief,

basing it on something I enjoy and something I want to learn.

Can't be all bad can it.
